The foundation on Saturday, April 15, 2023, gave away food products, school supplies, bags of water, clothing and footwear, to name a few to the orphanage at Buduburam. The worth of the donation was about GHS10,000 and the items were selected after carefully evaluating what the orphanage required this season. The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dismissed calls on the government to reduce taxes on petroleum products. He said taking such an action will significantly affect the government’s revenues. Addressing the 2022 May Day parade at the Independence Square in Accra, he said the government risks losing about GH¢4 billion if it makes any such move. He added that it is even more untenable because the government is rather looking for more avenues to raise money. “Removing taxes on petroleum products will reduce government revenues by some GH¢4 billion. At this time, when we are determined to expand government revenues in order to increase our capacity to finance our own development, can we afford to reduce tax revenues by GH¢4 billion?” he quizzed.   A 21-year-old trader who sodomised a seven-year-old girl at North Kaneshie in Accra has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Anuze Salifu, charged with defilement, denied the offence. However, after the trial, the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, found Salifu guilty and sentenced him. The Mobile Money Agents Association, has called on agents across the country, to comply with the implementation of government’s 1.5%, which will take off on Sunday, May 1, 2022. The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), says it has readied itself for the implementation of the much-talked about E-levy starting this Sunday, May 1, 2022. It said it has put in place adequate measures to ensure the smooth take off of the new tax. It said it has broadly consulted all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the collection of the E-levy commences on Sunday May 1, 2022 as earlier announced. “The Authority assures the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth implementation of the Levy,” it said in a statement. “GRA has held several technical sessions and engagements with the various charging entities (Electronic Money Issuers, Banks, Payment Service Providers, and Specialized Deposit-taking Institutions) on the implementation of the E-Levy, with the aim of ensuring that the charging entities are in a position to implement the Levy by the due date,” it added.Earlier this week, the GRA said in a letter to Charging Entities that the implement

  Seven people have died after a boat capsized on the Late Volta in the Kwahu North District of the Eastern Region.   Two Policemen who were among the officers allegedly involved in bullion van robberies have been killed during exchange of fire with the Police at Ashaiman in Accra.   Dr George Peprah, a physician specialist at the Takoradi hospital has said, Josephine Paanyin Simon, the fake pregnant woman, only visited the hospital for fertility tests and not antenatal. “Her visit to our facil ity was for an oestrogen test for infertility assessment, we don’t have records on her at the antenatal unit,” Dr Peprah added. Doctor George Peprah was answering questions from the counsel of the accused Mr Fiifi Buckman, during cross-examination in court on Friday. The lawyer questioned whether the accused was taken through an oestrogen hormonal test at the hospital to check her fertility. Dr Peprah explained that doctors usually did not take patients through oestrogen tests for fertility but rather for infertility assessment. The lawyer said “What you are telling the court is not true.
