The Hecta Old Students  Association Year 2000 group led by  Chairman James Asante Boateng has again fulfilled its obligation of love to the Pure Heart Orphanage Home at Liberia Camp in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region of Ghana. The foundation on Saturday, April 15, 2023, gave away food products, school supplies, bags of water, clothing and footwear, to name a few to the orphanage at Buduburam. The worth of the donation was about GHS10,000 and the items were selected after carefully evaluating what the orphanage required this season. The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dismissed calls on the government to reduce taxes on petroleum products. He said taking such an action will significantly affect the government’s revenues. Addressing the 2022 May Day parade at the Independence Square in Accra, he said the government risks losing about GH¢4 billion if it makes any such move. He added that it is even more untenable because the government is rather looking for more avenues to raise money. “Removing taxes on petroleum products will reduce government revenues by some GH¢4 billion. At this time, when we are determined to expand government revenues in order to increase our capacity to finance our own development, can we afford to reduce tax revenues by GH¢4 billion?” he quizzed.   A 21-year-old trader who sodomised a seven-year-old girl at North Kaneshie in Accra has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Anuze Salifu, charged with defilement, denied the offence. However, after the trial, the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, found Salifu guilty and sentenced him. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo, the prosecutor, said the complainant was a trader residing at North Kaneshie, Accra with the victim and her other siblings. The prosecution said Salifu also lived a few meters away from the complainant’s house. It said on March 7, this year, the complainant left the victim and her brother in the care of their elder sister. The Mobile Money Agents Association, has called on agents across the country, to comply with the implementation of government’s 1.5%, which will take off on Sunday, May 1, 2022. In a statement issued on April 30, Association urged its members to continue to educate the general public on the new tax initiative as it will “help restore confidence in and continuous usage of the platform to facilitate all financial transactions”. On April 28, 1992, the country went to the polls to vote for democracy after the late president Jerry John Rawlings came into power through a coup in 1981.
