MTN Group ranked Africa’s top telecoms brand MTN has been awarded the most valuable telecom brand in Africa in a recent annual report by Brand Finance, a leading independent brand valuation consultancy. The report stated that MTN’s brand value was boosted by a solid overall performance for the year, despite challenging economic conditions and regulatory challenges in some markets. 6 Nigeriens escape from mandatory quarantine centre in Kadjebi Six Nigeriens under mandatory quarantine have escaped from a holding centre at Asato in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region. Sources tell JoyNews that the incident happened when health officials went there to check on them on Monday but found an empty building without any notice. The Nigeriens were part of the  37 commuters who were arrested on April 17 and 18  in the district. They had been prevented by a joint security operation from using one of the border outposts in the Kadjebi District into Togo and subsequently confined for observation at a guest house. According to Peter Senoo, the Joy News Oti Regional Correspondent, they were returning from Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region where their mainstay – polishing finger and toes nails – is no longer fetching them much. Ghana’s COVID-19 case count rises to 1,279 with 134 recoveries Ghana’s COVID-19 case count has risen to 1,279 from the 1,154, after125 more cases were confirmed in the country. According to the latest Ghana Health Service update of April 24, 2020, Oti and Western North Regions have now recorded cases increasing the number of regions affected by COVID-19 to 12 out of 16 regions in Ghana. The update indicates that 14 more people have recovered from the virus, putting the total number of persons who have recovered from COVID-19 in Ghana at 134. One more death has been confirmed bringing the number to 10. Eric Dier: Tottenham midfielder charged by FA after confronting fan Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has been charged by the Football Association after he climbed over seats to confront a fan after a match in March. The incident happened after Spurs were  knocked out of the FA Cup at home by Norwich . "Eric Dier has been charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3," the FA said in a statement. Uefa keen on sporting merit qualification method for European competitions Uefa has urged clubs to "explore all possible options" to finish domestic seasons and use "a different format" if needed in order for teams to qualify for European competitions. European football's governing body wants clubs to qualify for European competitions through "sporting merit". If league seasons cannot be finished it said national associations would need to select clubs to qualify for Europe. Uefa said it could "refuse or evaluate" selected teams if necessary. The police chief for the state of Victoria said it was the worst loss of life in the history of the state's police force. Officers had pulled over a car for speeding on a motorway when the lorry ploughed into them, officials said. The driver of the car - a Porsche 911 sports car - fled the scene and is being sought by police.
