Burkina Faso, Guinea refuse to receive citizens who tested positive for coronavirus in Ghana





Ghana is facing a diplomatic hurdle as it attempts to repatriate Burkinabe and Guinean citizens who tested positive for coronavirus in Tamale, the Northern Region capital.
Northern Region Minister, Salifu Saeed, has disclosed that authorities in Guinea are reluctant to receive eight of their citizens who tested positive for coronavirus in Ghana.
The eight Guineans have been quarantined in Tamale.
“Our headache is that the Guinean authorities are saying they will not agree for us to return them,” the Minister said at a media briefing on Wednesday.
Also, two Burkinabes remain in quarantine in Ghana as their home country threaten to return Ghanaians who are critically ill in their country and receiving treatment.
Addressing the media in Tamale, the Northern Region capital, Mr Saeed said the Foreign Affairs Ministry is treading cautiously on the matter to prevent a diplomatic row.
Ban on prostitution
The Northern Regional Security Council has placed a ban on the activities of commercial sex workers in the region.

This directive is in line with the council’s attempt to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the region.
The region currently has 10 out of Ghana’s 195 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.
Some of these carriers were also found out to be involved in prostitution, triggering the intention to place an embargo on the trade.
One of them, a Guinean lady, is said to have escaped mandatory quarantine as the security agencies launched a manhunt for her.

Government can’t afford to reduce taxes on fuel; we’ll lose GH¢4bn revenue –Prez Akufo-Addo.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dismissed calls on the government to reduce taxes on petroleum products. He said taking such an action will significantly affect the government’s revenues. Addressing the 2022 May Day parade at the Independence Square in Accra, he said the government risks losing about GH¢4 billion if it makes any such move. He added that it is even more untenable because the government is rather looking for more avenues to raise money. “Removing taxes on petroleum products will reduce government revenues by some GH¢4 billion. Man jailed 8 years for sodomising a 7-year-old girl

  A 21-year-old trader who sodomised a seven-year-old girl at North Kaneshie in Accra has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Anuze Salifu, charged with defilement, denied the offence. However, after the trial, the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, found Salifu guilty and sentenced him. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo, the prosecutor, said the complainant was a trader residing at North Kaneshie, Accra with the victim and her other siblings. The prosecution said Salifu also lived a few meters away from the complainant’s house. It said on March 7, this year, the complainant left the victim and her brother in the care of their elder sister.
