FORMER HEARTS OF OAK PLAYER NOW A BUILDING ENGINEER IN USA

Alfred Nii Larbi Darku – former striker of Accra Hearts of Oak is now Commercial and Resident Building in Virginia, United States of America (USA).

Nii Larbi Darku, who stopped playing for Hearts in 2007 after a league title, FA Cup and Continental title in 2005, left for the USA in 2007.

This was after he had signed a ten-month contract with the Indian side Viva Kalera after signing a ten-month contract.

However this not materalised since his traveling documents together with his wife and children were ready for them to relocate to the USA.

The aggressive striker who also played for Okwahu United and Liberty Professionals has vivid memories of his days in Okwahu United, when he led them to beat Asante Kotoko by a lone goal in the premier league in 2001. The first defeat of Kotoko in the league.

He also remembers a lone goal at the Accra Sports Stadium against Accra Hearts of Oak, after receiving an assist from former Black Stars player John Painstil, whilst playing for Liberty Processionals.

Again, it was a time Hearts of Oak had never tasted a defeat in the premiership. Coincidentally, he joined Hearts later and was part of the 2005 squad that won the Confederations Cup competition, when Hearts defeated Kotoko on penalties to win the trophy at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

He told the GNA Sports that, he engages in the veterans league in the USA, a league reserved for players who are 35 and beyond.

According to Nii Larbi Darku he playes in the league with veterans like Olloquaye Commodore (Hearts), Kofi Deblah (Ashgold) and Nana Arhin Duah (Kotoko).

Man jailed 8 years for sodomising a 7-year-old girl

A 21-year-old trader who sodomised a seven-year-old girl at North Kaneshie in Accra has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Anuze Salifu, charged with defilement, denied the offence. However, after the trial, the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, found Salifu guilty and sentenced him. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo, the prosecutor, said the complainant was a trader residing at North Kaneshie, Accra with the victim and her other siblings. The prosecution said Salifu also lived a few meters away from the complainant’s house. Government can’t afford to reduce taxes on fuel; we’ll lose GH¢4bn revenue –Prez Akufo-Addo.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dismissed calls on the government to reduce taxes on petroleum products. He said taking such an action will significantly affect the government’s revenues. Addressing the 2022 May Day parade at the Independence Square in Accra, he said the government risks losing about GH¢4 billion if it makes any such move. He added that it is even more untenable because the government is rather looking for more avenues to raise money. “Removing taxes on petroleum products will reduce government revenues by some GH¢4 billion. At this time, when we are determined to expand government revenues in order to increase our capacity to finance our own development, can we afford to reduce tax revenues by GH¢4 billion?” he quizzed.
